All adults in Saskatchewan’s Northern Saskatchewan Administrative District (NSAD) are now eligible to receive a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine in their home province.
All appointments for second doses will need to be at a certain interval after a person’s first dose - three weeks after a dose of Pfizer first shot and four weeks after a Moderna first shot. Once those periods pass, any northern resident (including people in Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay and other communities) 18 years old or older will be able to book a second dose appointment.
The province announced the news June 13, along with announcing that all Saskatchewan residents age 12 and up are now eligible to receive a first dose of vaccine. As of June 14, second dose eligibility outside northern Saskatchewan is limited only to people age 50 and over or people who received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose on or before April 15. Almost 900,000 vaccine doses have been given in Saskatchewan as of June 14, including 12,295 doses in the far north east health zone, which covers Saskatchewan communities near Flin Flon and other communities stretching as far west as the La Ronge area.
Manitoba
Meanwhile, Manitoba’s vaccine eligibility is easing once more. The province is now allowing anyone who received their first dose on or before May 10 to receive a second dose, regardless of age. All Indigenous people across the province are also eligible to receive a second shot, as are people with certain health conditions and people who are taking specific kinds of powerful medication. A full list of those health conditions and medications can be found on the provincial government’s website.
Manitoba broke the one million vaccine mark over the weekend, with vaccinations continuing province-wide over the weekend at supersites. The vast majority of those doses have been Pfizer vaccine doses - about 830,000 as of June 14 - with about 233,000 doses of Moderna vaccine. In the Flin Flon area, almost all shots administered during the pandemic have been Moderna doses - both AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines have been available. Another 105,000 Moderna vaccines are expected to come into the province this week, along with another 87,750 doses of Pfizer vaccine.
