Funding has been confirmed for roof repairs at Hapnot Collegiate and École McIsaac School.

The two schools were named in a provincial announcement on April 18 that also included funding for 21 other Manitoba educational facilities. In total, the cost of the announced projects totals about $15.5 million.

The cost of the two Flin Flon projects is pegged at around $2.28 million. Work on the two sites will take place this summer, according to Flin Flon School Division (FFSD) secretary-treasurer Heather Fleming.

Winnipeg-based company Oakwood Roofing had been contracted to fix both roofs through the provincial government’s tendering process and the Public Schools Finance Board (PSFB).

The province had first announced upgrades for the three schools in April 2017, pledging that they would be completed within six to 24 months.

Fixes for the two facilities come after similar roof repairs were made to Ruth Betts Community School. These repairs were completed last year. Grooming rooms at Ruth Betts and McIsaac, including private, accessible washrooms, were also financed through the PSFB.

A third project was also announced April 18 for Ruth Betts Community School, with the provincial government funding the construction of an elevator at Ruth Betts. Fleming said the project would not likely be completed within the same timeframe as the roof repairs elsewhere in the division.

“As it would require engineering, funding approval and tendering, there is a really good chance this project will not happen for the 2019-2020 school year,” said Fleming.
