Rotary Air Show: The need-to-know guide

This is Flin Flon Rotary’s second air show in three years, and while the 2016 show seems to have been an unqualified success, things have been tweaked a little with the hope of making this one even better.

This is Flin Flon Rotary’s second air show in three years, and while the 2016 show seems to have been an unqualified success, things have been tweaked a little with the hope of making this one even better.

Getting to the show

Moving people into and out of the vicinity of the airport with a minimum of frustration is again a priority. It worked out just fine last time because everyone cooperated.

The fact that so many people took advantage of the buses made a big difference.

Buses will again be shuttling between Walmart and the airport starting from 2 pm. The cost of a round trip per person will again be only $5.

If you decide to drive your own vehicle, please come as early as you can. There is lots of parking space if everyone follows directions.

Stay tuned to CFAR before and during the whole day. Event organizers and CFAR on location will give you up-to-the-minute information. Having everyone on the same wavelength, pardon the pun, could make a big difference.

If you want to watch the show from a boat, just remember there is a no trespass area that will be strictly enforced.

As well, Rotarians will be out in boats checking for admission tickets. The assumption is that everyone sees the show as being staged for a worthy cause and will want to contribute their fair share.

Boaters, if you have a radio, please take it in the boat and monitor CFAR.

Food & entertainment

There will be an assortment of food services: the Hong Kong Express; OMG Outstanding Grub; Chicken Chef; Arctic Beverages; Inner Wheel; and maybe one or two more.

There will also be all kinds of entertainment, including live music provided by local musicians.

Canadian Tire is arranging for a bouncy castle to keep the kids entertained.

Military rules

There are some strict military and airport regulations that must be adhered to by all who attend the show.

The Snowbirds put on dozens of shows all over North America and the same rules apply for all of them.

Alcohol and drugs are prohibited. No coolers are allowed on the grounds. Food and drink will be readily available at very reasonable prices.

And one last very important caution, and another military condition: if anyone tries to get into places where entry is forbidden, their actions could cause the show to be cancelled. Canadian Forces personnel are on the watch for this kind of activity and will halt the show if they feel it’s warranted, spoiling the day for everyone. So please follow directions.

Have a great time!

We advise everyone coming out to the show to bring lawn chairs.

We hope you will fully enjoy the amazing carnival-like atmosphere, and the adrenaline rush of being so close to some of the most powerful machines in existence, flown by the most skilled pilots in the Air Force. Their spectacular manoeuvres are sure to be a thrill for all.
