The Flin Flon Bombers started a pilot program in the 2009-10 season to welcome more students and youth to home games. Through the Tickets for Kids program, nearly 2,500 students attended seven games free of charge. Over the course of the regular season, tickets were handed out to the schools for students, all the way up to Grade 12, to attend six pre-selected games. In the post-season, the students were able to attend one playoff game free of charge. Dan Reagan, governor of the Bombers, announced the success of the program last Wednesday night at the organization's annual general meeting. "We generated $9,942 under our Tickets for Kids program," he told the board and those in attendance. "The Bombers probably made $1,400 to $1,500 more than they would have made if we had (relied on) just paying customers," he said. The program was made possible through various sponsors within the community. The Tickets for Kids Committee, after crunching the numbers, needed to raise $1,200 per game to provide the students with tickets. "We actually exceeded that," Reagan noted. With the help of Tickets for Kids, Reagan estimates that there were an extra 1,500 youth Ð if not more Ð in the Whitney Forum to watch the games. "We had over 2,500 kids attend those seven games and normally we would have been in the neighbourhood of...1,000 or 900," he said. Overall, Reagan said he thought the program went over well. "When we met last week, we decided that we would like to proceed with the program again this year," he said.
