Flin Flon Minor Hockey plans to kick off the minor hockey season with a first-of-its-kind tournament for players from across northern Manitoba Sept. 10.
Four age divisions will take part in a 3-on-3 tournament to start this season at the Whitney Forum, featuring play in four separate age groups - the under-nine, under-11, under-13 and under-15 groups, formerly called the novice, atom, peewee and bantam age groups. The under-nine players will play a half-ice tournament, while the other three groups will play full-ice tournaments with continuous play.
Penalties will be assessed with penalty shots instead of trips to the box, with defenders’ teams able to chase down shooters from the far blue line.
Teams and schedules will be announced after registrations end - players can be registered for a $20 entry fee. All players and coaches involved have to be registered with Hockey Canada programming for the 2022/23 season to take part in the tournament and coaches must meet qualifications for minor hockey coaching.
