Former Flin Flon Bombers goaltender Brandon Wildung is making a name for himself south of the border.
Wildung, 23, is spending his summer playing in Da Beauty League, a rec hockey league with some serious star power.
The rosters of the six-team, four-on-four league based in Edina, Minnesota, include NHL stars, former Olympians and college standouts.
Beauty League games have been broadcast by radio stations in Minnesota, with videos and clips of the games available online.
Six current NHLers, including Dustin Byfuglien, James van Riemsdyk and Chris Stewart, play with Wildung on team Walser. Former NHLer Ben Clymer is the coach.
Wildung was a standout in the league last season, when he was named the most outstanding goaltender as his team reached the league final.
Despite the big names on team Walser, the club had a rough start to the season, losing their first two games.
Wildung is about to enter his senior year with the NCAA’s Mercyhurst Lakers, where he’s been the starting goalie for the past three seasons.
He played 19 games with the Bombers in 2012-13, mostly as a backup. After leaving Flin Flon, he suited up with the North American Hockey League’s Minot Minotauros before earning a scholarship with Mercyhurst.
