The Flin Flon Bombers’ Garry Childerhose has been honoured as the SJHL’s top assistant coach.
Childerhose was recently named the 2016-17 winner of the Dwight McMillan Award. Assistant coaches across the league voted on the award.
“It’s really exciting for me to be recognized in this way,” Childerhose said in a press release. “It’s become a passion of mine to work close with each player.”
Childerhose is coming off his third season with the Bombers and the team’s second consecutive trip to the league final.
He filled in for head coach Mike Reagan for stretches in each of the past two seasons, when Reagan was away coaching Team Canada West at the World Junior A Hockey Challenge. In Reagan’s absence, Childerhose racked up an impressive record of 13-1.
Childerhose, 27, suited up for the Melfort Mustangs and attended SUNY-Geneseo in New York for four years before joining the Bomber coaching staff. He is expected to be back with the Bombers next season.
