Jaeden Mercier has become the latest in a long line of Flin Flon Bombers to commit to an NCAA Division I school - and he'll have some familiar company when he gets there.

The Bombers announced Oct. 18 that Mercier had committed to play next season with the Lindenwood Univ. Lions. Lindenwood, based in St. Charles, Missouri, is also where former Bomber Drew Kuzma is playing his first season of college hockey.

So far this season, Mercier has 18 points in 13 games with the Bombers, playing his fourth junior A season with the club. An assistant captain with the team, Mercier is currently second in league scoring and led the Bombers in forward scoring during last year's Centennial Cup with two goals and six points.

“We are very proud and excited for Jaeden. He’s worked hard to become a more complete player over his four years as a Bomber," said Bombers head coach and general manager Mike Reagan in a team-issued statement.

"Jaeden is one of the most offensively gifted players that I’ve coached. Jaeden’s puck skills, creativity and ability to make players miss is fun to watch.”

Mercier becomes the second member of this year's Bomber roster to have an NCAA Division I deal lined up in the future. Forward Jeremi Tremblay has committed to play for the Sacred Heart Univ. Pioneers once his time as a Bomber ends.

The Lions have just started their first year in the top division of U.S. mens’ college hockey, but the school and its hockey program are not new to success on the ice. Lindenwood has had one of the U.S.’ top mens’ club hockey teams - a team that represents the school in lower college hockey tiers, typically with no formal funding from the college - since it began in 2003, winning four U.S. national titles including one this past season.

The team is coached by longtime former St. Louis Blue Rick Zombo and will be moving into a new rink this year.
