A pair of prominent educators in Flin Flon are planning to wrap up their careers after around 60 combined years of service in local schools.

Two educators, Helen Collier and Shirley Payne, have both been honoured for years of service with the Flin Flon School Division (FFSD) heading into retirement. Each was presented with gifts from the division and will be honoured at a year-end tea for staff and administrators this week organized by the Flin Flon Teachers' Association (FFTA).

Payne began working in education in Flin Flon back in 1974 at Birchview School before embarking on a career that would take her throughout the division and working with different groups and grades. The last post of Payne’s career was as the resource teacher at Ecole McIsaac School, where she has worked for several years leading up to retirement.

“Shirley was a huge asset to our division and she will be missed,” said FFSD superintendent Tammy Ballantyne.

Collier started working with the FFSD in 2006, working as an educational assistant. Over the next 15 school years, Collier worked as an EA in both Ecole McIsaac School and Ruth Betts Community School, where she has worked before retiring this year.

“Helen was a respected educational assistant and we wish you all the best in retirement,” said Ballantyne.
