Could the "spring ahead, fall back" rule one day apply to clocks in Saskatchewan? While the province has no definitive answer, officials are at least discussing the possibility of joining the rest of Canada by adopting Daylight Saving Time. "We're still working on it," Government Relations Minister Len Taylor told CBC. Taylor had initially said the province would decide one way or the other in January, but no announcement came as the government became bogged down with other matters. He now hopes a final decision will be announced before the next time change on Apr. 3. Premier Lorne Calvert last year ruled out a referendum on the matter, saying Saskatchewan did not need a divisive issue. Residents of Creighton and Denare Beach follow Daylight Saving Time given their proximity to Manitoba. Several countries first adopted the system during World War I, the rationale being that an extra hour of daylight would reduce fuel consumption. American statesman and inventor Benjamin Franklin is credited with dreaming up the concept in his 1784 essay, An Economical Project.
