Matilda J. Mitchell of 229 Bracken Street, Flin Flon, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 75 years. She was born in Roblin, MB on October 20, 1928 to William and Annie Kapetz. She attended high school in Roblin and Normal School in Winnipeg. She resided in Roblin, MB; Winnipeg, MB and Flin Flon, MB. Matilda married George Stuart Mitchell on November 1, 1952. She was employed as a teacher with the Flin Flon School District until her retirement in 1982. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and bowling. She was a member of the Northminster United Church, the Rebekahs and the Legion. Matilda was predeceased by her brothers Peter and Nick Kapetz; sister-in-law Isabel Leflar; mother and father Annie and William Kapetz; mother-in-law and father-in-law Clara and George Mitchell; and brothers-in-law Johnny Mitchell and David Mitchell. She is survived by brothers Mike (Fran) Kapetz; sisters Lillian (Fr. Mirone) Klysh and Shirley (Fred) Karau and sisters-in-law Marge Kapetz and Helen Kapetz; in-laws Liz (Orton) Stauffer, Marg (John) Mitchell, Greig (Marlene) Mitchell; children Leslie (Roberta), Debra (Terry) Nowazek, Lyle (Cheri) and Lori (Steve) Steele; grandchildren Lisa and Scott Mitchell, Sara Nowazek, Tyler and Stefani Mitchell and Kyle and Wade Steele; aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service was held Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Northminster Memorial United Church with Reverend Janis Campbell officiating. The church choir was accompanied by musicians Mark Kolt and Tyler Mitchell. Active pallbearers were members of the I.O.O.F.: Cam Yeo, Ron Dodds, Menno Fehr, Glenn Mikklesen, Joe Dumenko and George Rideout. Honourary pallbearers were members of the Rebekahs. Following interment at Hillside Cemetery, the Rebekahs served lunch at the Northminster Memorial United Church Hall. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, c/o Christie's, 115 Main Street, Flin Flon. Dadson Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
