True crime fans can start the countdown: Monster: The Lizzie Borden Storythe brand new season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology, will arrive on Netflix on September 17. And seeing the first images revealed today, this new story promises to be as disturbing as it is fascinating.
After exploring the stories of Jeffrey Dahmer, the Menendez brothers and Ed Gein, the popular Monster series this time focuses on Lizzie Borden, one of the most mysterious figures in American criminal history.
In 1892, Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with axes in their family home in Massachusetts. Although she was ultimately acquitted, the case has never ceased to fascinate the public and remains surrounded by numerous theories.
According to information revealed by Netflix, this new season will be the first of the franchise to put a woman at the center of its story. Ryan Murphy offers a much more stylized and contemporary rereading of this historic case, exploring themes of female anger, social repression and the way in which certain women are transformed into veritable myths. The series will also take several creative liberties, including imagining a relationship between Lizzie Borden and servant Bridget Sullivan. We must remember that beyond the historical side, it remains a fictionalized series.
All eight episodes will be posted online simultaneously on September 17just in time to kick off the thrill season.
