Weekend will mark a spike in play for Flin Flon-Creighton volleyball squads

Five local volleyball teams will hit the court to take part in tournaments this weekend. The Creighton Kodiaks’ junior volleyball boys’ and girls’ teams will host a tournament in Flin Flon and Creighton on Saturday.

Five local volleyball teams will hit the court to take part in tournaments this weekend.

The Creighton Kodiaks’ junior volleyball boys’ and girls’ teams will host a tournament in Flin Flon and Creighton on Saturday. The tournament will include teams from across the region.

Scheduled to take part on the boys’ side were two teams from Ecole McIsaac School and one team each from Ruth Betts Community School, Creighton Community School, OCN’s Oscar Lathlin Collegiate and The Pas’s Scott Bateman Middle School.

On the girls’ side, Creighton and McIsaac will each have two teams. Ruth Betts, Oscar Lathlin, Scott Bateman, Deschambault Lake and Cranberry Portage will each enter one team.

The tournament begins with games on the girls’ side at Creighton Community School at 9 am Saturday. Oscar Lathlin will face Creighton while Scott Bateman takes on McIsaac.

Also starting at 9 am, Saturday, McIsaac will host the boys’ side games. Scott Bateman plays McIsaac and Ruth Betts squares off against Oscar Lathlin.

Creighton’s Senior A girls’ team will head to Carrot River for conferences this weekend. The Kodiaks will face off Friday and Saturday against teams from Red Earth, Porcupine Plain, Hudson Bay and hosts Carrot River.

All four Hapnot Collegiate volleyball teams will be hitting the road for tournaments down south.

The boys’ and girls’ senior varsity squads will play in this year’s Spartan Dig tournament at Neelin High School in Brandon. The Hapnot Kings and Kweens are two of 60 teams taking part.

The boys will play Brandon’s Crocus Plains Plainsmen, Melita’s Marauders and the Teulon Saints in their first round draw. The girls will face the Deloraine Colts, John Taylor Pipers from Winnipeg and the host Neelin Spartans.

Meanwhile, Hapnot’s junior varsity teams will play a tournament at Goose Lake High in Roblin. The junior Kweens play Swan Valley, Virden, Dauphin and hosts Goose Lake in their pool, while the six-team boys’ side features clubs from Boissevain, Hamiota, Russell, Roblin and Thompson.
