Mixed results for Flin Flon, Creighton volleyball teams

Flin Flon and Creighton school volleyball teams are coming off a whirlwind weekend of tournament play. Creighton Community School held a junior volleyball tournament over the weekend. Five boys’ teams and nine girls’ teams came to play.

Ruth Betts Community School came away with the title on the boys’ side, beating École McIsaac School in the tournament final 25-15, 25-23. Ruth Betts went through the tournament round robin with a 7-1 record.

Cranberry Portage Elementary School, which defeated Scott Bateman from The Pas in the tournament final, won the girls’ title. OCN’s Oscar Lathlin Collegiate finished the tournament in third.

Both Hapnot Collegiate senior varsity teams played in one of Manitoba’s biggest volleyball tournaments – the Neelin Spartan Dig tournament, held at Brandon’s Neelin High School.

Hapnot’s senior varsity Kings finished second in their pool before losing to Winnipeg’s Westgate Wings. 

The senior Kweens had a rough weekend, losing all three games and not advancing past the pool stage. The host Neelin Spartans won the boys’ tournament, while the Dauphin Clippers took home hardware on the girls’ side.

Hapnot Juniors

The Hapnot junior Kings and Kweens also headed south, spending the weekend playing at Roblin’s Goose Lake High.

The Kings won against Boissevain and Major Pratt School in the round robin, before losing 23-25, 25-21, 15-6 to Thompson’s RD Parker Collegiate.

The Creighton Kodiaks girls’ team made a trip of their own last weekend, heading to conferences in Carrot River. After winning their opener against Red Earth, Creighton dropped three straight games to Porcupine Plain, Carrot River and Hudson Bay, finishing fourth of five teams. Hosts Carrot River won the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.
