Volleyball teams in Flin Flon and Creighton have been quite busy.

The school’s squads took part in five tournaments in the past two weeks, earning one podium finish.

The senior boys’ team finished second in the recent Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (DRCSS) Turkey Weekend Tournament, held Oct. 6 and 7.

Fortune favoured the Kings, who finished tied with two other teams with a 3-2  round robin record but earned a spot in the tournament championship by losing fewer sets.

The Kings lost 25-18, 25-21 to the Hamiota Huskies in a close match in the tournament final.

Hapnot’s junior and senior Kweens and junior Kings went to Swan River over Thanksgiving weekend to play in the Doug Oberlin Tournament. The senior Kweens finished second in their pool with a 2-1 record, finishing the tournament in fourth place after losses to Gilbert Plains and hosts Swan Valley.

The junior Kweens fared less well, finishing the round robin winless before beating The Pas’ MBCI Spartans in a consolation round game.

Hapnot’s junior Kings side also came home winless in the round robin and finished in last place, losing a consolation game to Winnipegosis 25-14, 25-12.

The junior Kweens were back in action last weekend in Thompson, playing in a tournament against nine other northern teams. While the Kweens earned a win against Oscar Lathlin Collegiate, the team lost three other games, finishing tied for last in their pool.

Kodiaks

The Creighton Kodiaks’ volleyball season also continues with a packed schedule.

The senior girls’ side made it to the semi-finals in a tournament last weekend in Duck Lake, losing to Onion Lake.

On the other side of the border, the senior boys’ team went 1-2 in a tournament in Cranberry Portage, earning a win against Oscar Lathlin.
