Letter to the Editor: Creighton’s geology did not suit nuclear waste storage

Dear Editor, It’s been almost two years to the day – March 2015 – that the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) informed us that the rock here was not suitable to store nuclear waste at the proposed site near Creighton.

Dear Editor,

It’s been almost two years to the day – March 2015 – that the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) informed us that the rock here was not suitable to store nuclear waste at the proposed site near Creighton.

Yet every day, I have to live with rude comments, deadly stares, bashing on social media – because some people here seem to think that I alone am responsible for stopping this waste from being buried here.

I am originally from Flin Flon. We are going on our sixth generation here. I felt I had a right to stand up for my beliefs against the burying of nuclear waste.

It is funny how the people who were against this have let it go. You don’t see me on Flin Flon Post It gloating about the results.

The people in town who are doing these things, quit the hating already. I want to be able to go to the grocery store, a Christmas concert in a church and to a local club. To this day I receive “if looks could kill” stares.

I want to go for a walk without fear of being run over. I also don’t want to be told to take down a sign on the highway a year later (which someone kindly removed, thank you). Can you all please just stop already.

The rock was no good. Have a good day.

Nadine Porter
