Timbits and a Double Double, anyone?

The owners of the Creighton Petro-Canada station are exploring the possibility of a Tim Hortons kiosk.

“We are currently evaluating that opportunity,” said Trevor Ives, CEO of Peter Ballantyne Group of Companies (PBGC).

“We’re just going through the evaluation process, as is Tim Hortons.”

Ives said PBGC is looking at a kiosk that would sell a full complement of beverages and baked goods, including Timbits, cookies and bagels.

He said it’s not clear when a decision will be made, noting the process involves two parties and that Tim Hortons has its own time frames.

The kiosk would involve a “very significant” investment by PBGC, Ives said, but he added the company sees potential in the venture.

“We think it might be a good fit for the market and might help us increase the traffic to the station, for sure,” he said.

Ives said PBGC will make an announcement on the kiosk when a decision is finalized.

A PBGC subsidiary purchased the Creighton Petro-Canada station in 2010. PBGC is the economic development arm of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, which has thousands of members in northeastern Saskatchewan.

In a December 2015 interview, Derek McKay, manager of PBGC, said the gas station had been a good investment for the company.

The opening of a Tim Hortons outlet in the Flin Flon area has been rumoured for years, but the company has never made a definitive public statement confirming any plans.

Tim Hortons, which operates kiosks at gas stations and airports across Canada, did not return a request for comment on the potential Creighton kiosk.

When The Reminder contacted the franchise back in 2006, it said rumours about a local store at that time were false.

“We may be looking at Flin Flon in the coming months or even years as a possibility to build a store, but currently we’re not in any negotiations with respect to a site,” company spokesperson Meagen Lewandowski said at the time. “We haven’t even travelled out there to look at prospective sites, so it could be on the radar over the next couple of months or years, but nothing has been finalized and nothing preliminary has been done.”
