Registration deadline approaching for Creighton’s Copper Fair

After a three-year break, the Copper Fair will be returning to Creighton to showcase the area’s artistic talent.

After a three-year break, the Copper Fair will be returning to Creighton to showcase the area’s artistic talent.

The Copper Fair and juried art show will feature 13 different styles of entries, including, but not limited to, photography, painting, recycled art, quilting, needlepoint and a youth category.

The fair will be held at the Creighton Sportex. Artists, sponsors and judges will attend a wine-and-cheese-style gala on Thursday, September 17, with public viewing on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19.

Registration forms must be submitted by Friday, August 14, though the actual art pieces do not have to be handed in at this time.

Registration is open to all area artists as well as those from out of town. All pieces entered must have been made within the past 12 months.

Judging will take place for first, second and third place in each category as well as a People’s Choice award and Best in Show.

The Best in Show award will be given to a chosen piece selected from the first-place winners in each category. The viewing public will select the People’s Choice award.

Alongside the art show will be a home business sale. The rink portion of the Sportex will be divided to accommodate the art as well as the sale.

Registration forms for the juried art show can be picked up through the Town of Creighton or Creighton Recreation and Tourism building.

The fair was originally held by the Copper Fair Guild, but around 2010 the Town of Creighton’s recreation department took over.

This year will mark the third time Creighton Recreation has hosted the event. Recreation Director Channa Senyk is excited for the show and hopes to see entries comparable to past years.

In 2012, the last time the event was held, there were about 115 entries for the juried art show.
