Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) chief Peter A. Beatty will keep his seat for the next three years.

Originally from Deschambault Lake, Beatty earned his third consecutive election win after receiving 1,799 total votes. Southend’s Karen Bird, who ended the election with 1,152 votes, finished second but ahead of Beatty in Southend and Sandy Bay.

Shavonne Custer finished third in the chief voting, followed by Jason Linklater and Denare Beach’s Tom McDermott.

Beatty was first elected chief in 2012.

Fourteen spots on PBCN’s band council were claimed in the election, with eight incumbents keeping their seats.

Incumbent Marvin Morin will be the only representative from Denare Beach.

Kevin Morin and Darrin Morin will sit, representing Southend. Sandy Bay’s Harvey Natewayes and Timothy Underwood will also be a part of council, as well as five people from Pelican Narrows – Weldon McCallum, Myrtle Ballantyne, Justin Halcrow, Elizabeth Michel and Wesley Custer.

Walter Ballantyne and Peter R. Beatty – not the newly reelected chief – are set to represent Deschambault Lake, while Warren McCallum and Charles Sinclair from Sturgeon Landing round out the board.

On the Elders’ Council, Celina Bone will represent Denare Beach as the area’s elected Elder. Arthur Beatty and Steven Custer will represent Deschambault Lake, while Daniel Bear Sr. and Evelyn McDonald will serve Sandy Bay.

JB Dorion and Mildred Ratt will be the elected Elders for Pelican Narrows. Southend and Kinoosao will be represented on Elders’ Council by Florence Clarke and George Phillip.

Margaret Michel and Joe McKay will represent urban band members as Elders, while Florence McKay will represent Sturgeon Landing, earning her spot through acclamation.
