No injuries were reported after an ore truck trailer axle caught fire near Flin Flon over the weekend, the Flin Flon Fire Department reports.
The truck stopped near Sally’s Beach Road on Highway 10. Firefighters suppressed the fire after being notified at 7 pm Sunday, Nov. 13, said Fire Chief Chad Cooper.
Cooper said that sometimes the bearing of a trailer can fail, creating friction within the hub, which is filled with gear oil. Once a certain temperature is reached, combustion can occur, he said.
The ore truck driver managed to pull off the highway, disconnect the trailer and pull the truck away after noticing the fire, Cooper said.
Cooper said the truck was not carrying ore at the time, having departed Flin Flon for either the Lalor or Reed mine.
