Office of Unsubstantiated History proposed for Flin Flon

Flin Flon is ripe with legends and unproven historical anecdotes.

Now a pair of artists hopes to commemorate those tales by building a small, innovative gallery somewhere in the community.

Local artist Katie Kozak, who is working with fellow artist Lucien Durey, appeared before city council last week to ask for a letter of support for their proposed Office of Unsubstantiated History (OUH).

Spanning a modest 200 sq ft, the building would house an evolving installation representing the myths and legends of Flin Flon and area.

The installation would be viewable by the public during designated hours, or through a feature window at any time.

The building itself would double as a gathering spot for residents to engage with visiting and local artists, poets and storytellers.

Kozak and Durey plan to apply for a grant available as part of Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations in 2017. They want council to support the grant application by way of letter.

That seemed likely after Mayor Cal Huntley called the proposal “very interesting” and said council would get back to Kozak with an answer.

In terms of location, Kozak said Creekside Park is one idea, but she added she is open to any site. The artists have until Oct. 31 to submit a grant application.
