Hudbay not commenting on Callinex’s Pine Bay drill results

When it comes to promising drill results at the Pine Bay project near Flin Flon, the first question residents may ask is whether Hudbay is interested in the property. And on that front, the company has little to say at this point.

When it comes to promising drill results at the Pine Bay project near Flin Flon, the first question residents may ask is whether Hudbay is interested in the property.

And on that front, the company has little to say at this point.

“We are pleased to see renewed exploration activity in northern Manitoba, but it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to comment on the exploration properties of other firms,” Scott Brubacher, Hudbay’s director of corporate communications, told The Reminder when asked about the project last week.

In June, The Reminder asked Hudbay CEO Alan Hair whether he saw the possibility of a joint venture with Callinex Mines, which owns the Pine Bay site.

“We’re always open to opportunity and we’re always engaging with junior companies who are a big part of unlocking the potential of the region,” Hair said at the time.

Drilling at Pine Bay continues, and despite some promising early results, it’s not clear whether the site will host a mine.
