Ray Berg raised nearly $4,400 in pledges for the Manitoba Schizophrenic Society’s (MSS) Journey of Hope Walk, held over the weekend in Winnipeg.

“My best ever,” Berg said when asked how this year compared to his past donation drives. “It’s been excellent this year.”

Berg’s fundraising total this year came in at more than double the amount he collected in 2015.

He first started participating in the Journey of Hope six years ago, at the urging of a friend and regular participant.

Berg was unable to make it to last year’s walk due to health issues, but still fundraised for the campaign.

He and a friend raised the most money of any participants last year, winning the top prize of a night in a Winnipeg hotel.

The cause is close to Berg’s heart, as he was diagnosed with schizophrenia 17 years ago.
