Flin Flon fire report: House fires among calls

Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1:55 pm: A page from 911 stated a fire alarm was ringing on Princess Boulevard. The fire department investigated and determined the alarm was set off by contract workers. The fire chief and Engine 2 responded.

Friday, Aug. 12, 10:35 am: A page from 911 stated the fire alarm was ringing at a Flintoba Shopping Centre business. The fire department investigated and found that the fire alarm had been pulled by a child. The fire chief and Engine 2 responded.

Sunday, Aug. 14, 2:22 pm: A page from 911 stated an odour was reported on Hapnot Street. The fire department attended and evacuated the building in question until the odour was identified. The duty fire officer and Engine 2 responded.

Monday, Aug. 15, 1:37 pm: A page from 911 reported a structural fire at a Steventon Boulevard home. The fire department responded with mutual aid from the Hudbay Fire Dept. Crews conducted an aggressive fire attack, and the fire was declared under control at 2:50 pm. The home was saved but sustained heavy fire damage to the basement and smoke damage to the main floor. The fire chief, Engine 2 and Engine 1 responded.

Sunday, Aug. 28, 4:25 am: A page from 911 reported a structural fire on North Lane. The fire department responded, and crews conducted a fire attack. The fire was contained to the exterior of the building. The duty fire officer, Engine 2 and Engine 1 responded.

Monday, Aug. 29, 8:41 pm: A page from 911 stated a fire alarm was ringing on Evans Avenue. The fire department investigated and determined it was a false alarm. The duty fire officer and Engine 2 responded.

Also during August, the fire chief implemented an additional dispatch system with TV monitor in the fire bays. Crews will receive a text, email and apps alarm to their cell phones in addition to the normal pager system. Fire officers and the chief will be able to see how many members are responding to the fire hall. The system also displays the incident details and a map to the location.
