Exploratory drilling was planned for a Snow Lake area gold property that has captured the attention of prospectors for at least a quarter-century.

Copper Reef Mining Corp. announced it has mobilized a drill to its North Star-Gold Rock property, with seven holes planned by the end of March.

The holes will target the property’s New Discovery vein, which returned “high-grade values” last year, the company said, adding the vein is “virtually unexplored” along a four-km strike length.

The drilling will be part of phase one of a larger drill program targetting the property’s Gold Rock vein area, Copper Reef said.

Drill programs have drilled 269 holes on the North Star and Gold Rock vein systems since 2003, according to the Flin Flon-based company.

The North Star-Gold Rock property is located 25 km west of Snow Lake, or 50 km by road.

Meanwhile, Copper Reef recently welcomed geologist Warren Bates to its board of directors.

Bates is currently vice-president of exploration for Toronto-based Pelangio Exploration Inc. He brings extensive knowledge of the Flin Flon and Lynn Lake belts, according to Copper Reef.

Copper Reef said Bates will “help steer the company in its gold and zinc-copper exploration efforts in the prolific Flin Flon Belt.”
