A number of mining companies will be drilling around Flin Flon in the coming weeks.
Foran Mining announced that it has intersected high grade zinc at the McIlvenna Bay project near Flin Flon – not once, not twice, but six times.
Results of the first two holes of the project’s Phase 1 resource definition have been publicly released, with the results from six drilled holes each showing high-grade zinc intervals.
Four diamond drills are currently turning at the site, coming after a January decision by Foran to move the McIlvenna Bay project toward feasibility.
In a press release, Foran president and CEO Patrick Soares said the results were positive and that the decision to move the project toward feasibility is paying off.
“These latest results contain intervals at grades higher than the deposit average, which is highly encouraging. With four drills turning, we are moving quickly to complete the drilling necessary to support the upgraded resource estimate and feasibility study,” said Soares.
The mine site is located south of Hanson Lake about 100 kilometres by road from Flin Flon, near a formerly abandoned silica mine.
Foran has scheduled another drilling campaign at the McIlvenna Bay site after spring breakup. Additional drilling may be added to the existing winter drilling program if there is a slow thaw or if there is potential to expand or upgrade the site.
Junior mining company Callinex Mines will soon begin campaigns at two sites near Flin Flon.
The company will conduct drilling at the Big Island project site, located northeast of Big Island Lake. This drilling campaign will test an area of around 300,000 square metres located close to the existing Tara Lake high-grade zinc deposit.
Callinex reports that a deposit has been found in the area. No mines have previously operated within the project’s boundaries.
Along with the drilling, Callinex will be testing a target near Hook Lake. According to Callinex, the site has been identified by several electromagnetic surveys in the past. The Hook Lake site is about four kilometres south of Flin Flon.
“The target lies along a boundary between claims owned 100% by Callinex and claims that have been optioned,” reads a press release.
Another mining company, Vancouver-based Canyon Copper Corp., has also announced they have begun drilling near Bootleg Lake, approximately six kilometres south of Creighton.
Canyon Copper plans to drill four holes at two properties where mines had previously operated. The goal of the operation is to test historical information on the sites from previous operators and update the site’s current condition.
