Clues hide throughout a new Flin Flon event – an escape room.

The room is set in 1929, at the height of Prohibition. Participants are locked in a room meant to resemble the office of infamous mob capo Al Capone. Capone, who grew his criminal empire by running juice joints and speakeasys and producing bootleg hooch, is a key figure in the story.

Participants seek to find a hidden roll of money in the office before being “blown up” by a makeshift bomb, set to detonate after an hour of inspection. In order to find the money, participants need to examine the room carefully, looking for clues and references to advance further in the room.

You need critical thinking and thinking in a different way than you normally would,” said Maryn McKee, a 14-year-old entrepreneur who created the escape room with help from her mother, Colleen.

Maryn was inspired to create the room after visiting one on
a family vacation.

We did one when we were in Calgary for a visit. We wanted to bring one here,” she said. “We really liked it. We thought it was a really fun thing to do and a good way to get out of the house.”

Each group is timed, with the times written on a chalkboard outside the room. “It makes it a competition between different groups,” said Maryn.

The room is at 381 Princess Boulevard and will run on May 27 and 28. Time at the room can booked on the project’s website at escapetimeff.com.
