The Creighton Recreation Board is now short one member, as Don Aasen has moved away from the community.

Aasen retired from his job with Hudbay last year. In addition to his time on the recreation board, Aasen served as a member of Creighton town council for 13 years, ending in 2016 after he decided not to run for reelection.

His departure will not make an immediate impact on the board, which does not have a specific number of seats to be filled. Councillor Colleen Stallard, who serves as the chair for the town’s recreation, culture and tourism committee and also sits on the board, said Aasen’s spot will likely be filled.

“I’m thinking we probably will. We’ll never really fill Don’s spot, but he was a very good volunteer. I’m sure we’ll be trying to recruit someone for the rec board,” she said at the June 27 meeting.

“I don’t think there’s a set number. Whoever wants to do it can.”
