Creighton is one step away from having streetlights near a portion of Highway 167.

Town council approved a measure to ask SaskPower to install two streetlights in south Creighton near the highway to Denare Beach.

The lights will be located on Bomber Lake Road and King Crescent. The decision to mount lights at the area in question came after a letter received by council ahead of its Feb. 28 meeting. The letter, sent by Creighton resident Amanda Dubinak, detailed that the area can
be  dangerous for pedestrians in poor light.

Currently, the area is unlit. In August 2016, a pedestrian was killed after a traffic accident on the road.

Lights at the site could be up as early as June if SaskPower approves the project. “That varies, a lot of things can be factors in that,” said town administrator Paula Muench.

“It depends on the weather and the availability of the guys to build it. Right now, the ground’s really frozen. If they have to dig a hole in, it could take a little while,” said Creighton mayor Bruce Fidler.
