Here’s the straight dirt: the infield of the Creighton ball diamond will soon be resurfaced.

In total, 40 yards of shale will be ordered for the ball diamond. Once the shale arrives in Creighton, it will be spread around the infield of the park.

Expenses for the project will be split between the Town of Creighton, Creighton School Division, Flin Flon Creighton Minor Ball and Flin Flon Creighton Slo-Pitch.

Creighton town council approved spending $2,463.20 on the shale during its meeting on June 13. A similar sum is likely to come from the school division, while Flin Flon Creighton Slo-Pitch and Flin Flon Creighton Minor Ball will both donate $1,000. Volunteers will spread the shale, which will come from a quarry in southern Saskatchewan.

The project was first brought to council’s attention in early May.

“We had to get prices and estimates from a couple of different suppliers and find out who was all willing to put into it,” said Creighton mayor Bruce Fidler.

“That’s what took the time, but it’s all worked out and hopefully it’ll be ready to go in another month or so.”
