When it comes to one of its most anticipated fundraisers in years, the Rotary Club of Flin Flon is ready for takeoff.

The club will host the Rotary Air Show on July 13 at the Flin Flon Municipal Airport.

Featured are the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the CF-18 demonstration team. Total flight time between pilots will be about one hour 10 minutes.

The Rotary Club will direct proceeds from the event to the new Flin Flon General Hospital emergency department, a project for which private-sector fundraiser is required.

The Reminder caught up with event chairman Bill Jackson for more details.

Q: As chairman of this event, how do you feel about being able to bring the Snowbirds to town?

BJ: As a pilot, I am of course very excited to be chairing this committee for our Rotary Club.

I have followed the Snowbirds throughout my years in aviation and this is a dream come true to have them perform once again here in Flin Flon. The entire Rotary Club is pleased and very proud to host this air show for our community.

Q: What can people expect during the show?

BJ: There are two parts. First the Canadian Forces Snowbirds fly a nine-plane formation with incredible aerobatics and precision flying. The second part is the CF-18 Jet. The pilot demonstrates the superior flying capabilities of the jet fighter. This is a performance that should not be missed.

Q: When was the last time the Rotarians or anyone else brought the Snowbirds to Flin Flon?

BJ: The Snowbird team was here in 1991. That show was a fundraiser in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation. July 13, 2016 will be the first time the CF-18 and the Snowbirds perform together in Flin Flon.

Q: Proceeds will go to the new Flin Flon General Hospital emergency department. How will the Rotarians raise funds from this event?

BJ: There will be an admission fee for anyone wanting to watch the show. Admission has been set at $ 10 for adults and $5 for children. We are planning to make this a fun event for the entire family. We suggest fans bring a lawn chair and there will be food concessions available.

Q: Anything else worth mentioning?

BJ: Our Rotary Club is absolutely thrilled to bring this outstanding air show to Flin Flon. This will be a great family day and an occasion where our community can show its support for our Canadian Armed Forces and our Flin Flon General Hospital.
