Active fires are burning in northern Saskatchewan, including some within 100 km of Flin Flon.

The closest fire still considered not contained by Saskatchewan Wildfire Management is the Harp fire, burning southwest of Jan Lake. As of July 16, the fire was between 1,600 and 1,900 hectares in size.

Meanwhile, the largest fire to recently burn in the Denare Beach Fire Protection Area (FPA), the Moody fire, is officially out.

Located on the southern shore of Amisk Lake, the Moody fire was considered officially out on July 3. A lightning strike on June 17 was listed as the initial cause of the blaze. Just under 4,000 total hectares of land was affected.

Another fire in the Denare Beach FPA, the Madden fire located just north of the Churchill River, has a size of about 500 hectares. Assessment of the fire is ongoing.

In Manitoba, a fire burning between Sherridon and Pukatawagan is now considered under control by Manitoba Sustainable Development. That fire, located on the east shore of Wagner Lake, has reached a size of around 300 hectares and was first reported after a lightning strike on July 9.

As of July 16, most of both provinces, including most of northern Saskatchewan and all of northern Manitoba, were considered as having low fire danger by Natural Resources Canada.
