NDP candidate and incumbent MP Niki Ashton made her first election foray into Snow Lake several weeks back.

Ashton met with members of council, talked to constituents and pounded in a few signs.

She advises that her campaign is off to a good start, even with the extremely long writ period and a much larger riding (it now runs from south of Fort Alexander to the border with Nunavut).

At this point she has opposition in two of the three other parties that are normally on the constituency ballot: Liberal Rebecca Chartrand, an educator who lives in Winnipeg, and the Green Party’s August Hastmann, also an educator, who resides in Garden Hill.

The Conservatives as of this writing had yet to put forward a candidate.
